JOINT STATEMENT BY THE TOLEDO ZOO AND DR. TIM REICHARD
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: April 30, 2005
AGREEMENT ANNOUNCED BY TOLEDO ZOO AND DR. TIM REICHARD
The Toledo Zoo and Dr. Tim Reichard announce that they have reached a settlement concerning Dr. Reichard’s employment status with The Toledo Zoo. Under the terms of the agreement, The Zoo is rescinding Dr. Reichard’s February 28, 2005 dismissal and reinstating him as of March 1, 2005. Going forward, Dr. Reichard will be employed by the Zoo as an off-site consultant for a period of eighteen months beginning May 1, 2005.
The Zoo and Dr. Reichard are jointly announcing this settlement in a gesture of conciliation and openness. Under the Agreement of Resolution, Dr. Reichard will be paid an eighteen month salary of approximately $90,000, plus all of the benefits available to a Zoo employee for a period of eighteen months. The Zoo will also pay lost wages and benefits to Dr. Reichard from February 28, 2005 through the execution of this agreement and attorney’s fees incurred for representing him regarding his employment situation, with those amounts totaling approximately $37,000. As part of the agreement, Dr. Reichard will not perform any duties upon Zoo grounds nor will he pursue legal action against the Zoo or comment on Zoo operations, employees or management.
Both Dr. Reichard and the Zoo consider this agreement to be fair to Dr. Reichard and in the best interests of The Toledo Zoo. Dr. Reichard and The Zoo hope that this step can be a catalyst for healing within the Zoo and be part of the efforts being taken to improve The Zoo for the animals, the visitors, the employees and volunteers, and the whole community.
